Update on Spending

In search of cheap sushi supplies, I decided to hit Hong Kong Supermarket today and wasn’t disappointed!  A huge emporium of Asian goods, this place had a ton of stuff and I was a bit overwhelmed. We’re probably going to go overbudget this weekend…maybe not, but I did get a HUGE tub of miso and 50 sheets of nori – which were my only options.  The miso will last almost forever and the sheets of nori will keep in the fridge as well.  Sushi summer!

  • Nori: 6.99
  • Miso: 4.99
  • Mock dock: 1.29

Update on Spending

Finished up the week by spending $6.27 on lettuce, bagels, bread, icecream (on sale for 1.99!) and 2 apples bringing us to $29.63.  A new week begins!

Rice Noodle Stir-Fry

Grabbed some items from Chinatown (smoked tofu, Chinese spinach, baby bok choy and fresh rice noodles), which brought our weekly budget to $23.36.  Tonight’s dinner was a stir fry with rice noodles and stir fried bok choy, Chinese spinach and fresh corn with soy sauce and homemade spicy oil.

This Week’s Receipt

Since we got a whole bunch of nice stuff from our friend this weekend, it’s been pretty light on the vegetable buying front.  We did pick up a few things (see below):

  • Eggs: 1.49
  • Bread: 3.00
  • Cheese: 2.50
  • Parsley: 1.00
  • Bag of macadamia/ginger/cranberry trail mix: 4.99 (good for oatmeal and muffins!)

So Many Tomatoes

We’ve got a bumper crop of tomatoes from the garden and were given a bunch by a co-worker who loves to garden and hates to cook.  Last night’s dinner featured a variation on a socca, white bean and couscous patties (leftovers)  with tomato sauce, roasted cherry tomatoes and baby eggplants and a raw green salad (garden bounty).

We spent $2.00 on peanut butter and .50 on 2 bananas (banana bread made w/leftover oatmeal), so we’ve got $3.00 left to spend this week
