Truck Farm and Donuts

Because it’s a nasty day out and all I’ve done is stare at a computer screen and manipulate images, here are some food related photos from our various recent adventures.

Gardening in a truck – Red Hook, Brooklyn.

Voodoo Donuts!

Does anyone think these berries are edible?  We came across them during a hike up Multnomah Falls and decided not to eat them.

Crazy funghi!

Apparently those beautiful berries are something called “mahonia” and they’re edible. There’s a picture and some info here:

To add an oddity to my previous comment, I didn’t know where Multnomah Falls were, and looked it up – we’re going to be 10 miles or so from there next week! Maybe I’ll take my youngest on a hike and see if we see these pretty berries, too.

Voodoo Donut!? I’m jealous. I’ve seen them on the travel channel. Their maple bacon donut seems like something I want to try!
It looks like you’ve had lots of fun!

Oregon grape! Sour but very edible. (They are a kind of mahonia…)

The berries are completely edible. they are Oregon grape (mahonia spp). Very sour, but they make great preserves
