Carrot and White Radish Salad

A little side dish to go with tonight’s dinner, this Carrot and White Radish Salad might be a new potluck favorite.  We had a few turnips from last week that needed to be used up, so I peeled and chopped up 6 small radishes into half moons and cut 2 carrots into matchsticks.  A tablespoon of sunflower seeds, a small splash of olive oil and a larger splash of lemon juice, some salt and pepper and then a bit of tahini to round it all out and a nice little side dish was created.  Give it a shot!  The earthiness of the radishes with the tang of lemon juice, sweetness of the carrots and richness of tahini were an excellent combination.

Is it turnips or radishes with the carrots? You refer to both.

Urm…good question! Checking on last week’s receipt they are RADISHES! Updating the post!

OK – radishes. That does sound yummy then. I was having a bit of trouble with the thought of raw turnips.
(And you still refer to turnips in the 2nd sentence of your post).

Today I was at the Farmers Market. One of the vendors had “Summer Turnips” – which looked like slightly large white radishes. The farmer told me to either slice them up in salad or to roast them. So maybe I will try your carrot and radish salad as a turnip and carrot salad!
