This Week’s Receipt Has Gone Missing

It’s not in my purse, wallet or various bags used to bring home food.  I have a mere total scavenged from my bank account:

The groceries that were actually bought on Tuesday included:

  • blueberries
  • tofu
  • vital wheat gluten
  • olive oil
  • peaches
  • apples
  • string beans
  • red pepper
  • kirby cucumbers (2)
  • cashew pieces
  • mushrooms
  • onions (2)

I think I might have gotten everything!  The high price tag is due to the fact we had to buy olive oil and Phil requested some vital wheat gluten so we could make some more seitan sausages.

We also are reaping the benefits of the garden, which is very exciting!  Yesterday, I picked some kale, parsley, thyme, oregano, basil, spinach, beet greens and tatsoi!  I am so excited for the squash to get bigger.

Bet you accidentally tossed the receipt into a compost bin used to grow those gorgeous veggies.

I can’t wait to see what you come up with for the beet greens…I just got a bunch of beets (with greens) from our CSA and am looking for ideas for the greens…the beets were roasted and devoured!

Seitan sausages are amazing. Tonight I made some fried seitan sticks with cumin that have the taste and texture of calamari. With a little marinara, they were amazing.

Seitan sticks? What are they? Faux calamari sounds GREAT!

Saryn, we usually just sautee the beet greens with olive oil and garlic, but used them raw in a pasta salad the other day:
