Update: another $5 spent

$3 on tofu (arg, this is what we get for not going to the Coop) and $2 on a rather large block of smoked gouda (that’s a deal).  Update on the week: $12.49

interesting you should mention the $3 tofu. it’s one of my biggest pet peeves – it’s supposed to be an affordable source of protein!

if i can’t find the fresh stuff, i prefer trader joe’s organic soft tofu. it used to be $0.99, then it went to $1.09, and as of a few months ago, it’s $1.49! well, at least it’s nowhere close to the $3.99 i paid on the ues out of desperation that one fun time.

I will normally turn to beans instead of buying such expensive tofu, but I had a hankering for a tofu sandwich last night. Here in NY, there is an awesome lady in Chinatown that sells fresh tofu for $1 (A LOT OF TOFU). She’s great, but sometimes I like the firmer stuff. Ever consider making your own?

Sadly, $4+ for tofu is typical in the town I live in – cheapest is $2.50 at the international foods import store. :/

I just can’t get used to tofu and my kids REFUSE to eat it. we are all about the beans.
