This Week’s Receipt: Chinatown Shopping

Phil and I are really busy every night this week, so I decided that a quick trip to Chinatown on my way home would be faster than the Coop and it was. There are no receipts since everything was handled on a throwing dollar bills around basis, but here is the breakdown:

head of cauliflower: $2
lots of broccoli: $1.80
fresh tofu (1 extra large Chinese food take out container full): $1
rice noodles: $1
6 eggs: $1.25
TOTAL: 7.05

Wow, what a great shop! Tofu for $1 – sweet!

Yeah, this place is located on Grand between Bowery and Elizabeth on the North Side of the street. There is usually a lady who sells tofu in a building that is just a store front with half of a security gate. It’s super fresh, delicious and $1 for a HUGE container. It actually used to be .50. Still a steal.

That is great to know! Shopping in Chinatown always intimidates me, so it’s great to know a specific place to go to.

Jaime, I completely understand! If you’re looking for fresh noodles or sprouts, hit up the corner of Grand Street and Bowery. Good stuff! Also, if you’re into mock veggie “meats” that are inexpensive, go to May Wah – http://www.vegieworld.com/.
